The movie starts out with a group of 3 Norwegian students (Thomas, Andre & Johanna). And these fine young enthusiasts are doing a research on the mysterious bear killings. Finally they stumble upon Otto, a surreptitiously tall ranger type man who dwells in a caravan in the middle of the woods.

Glenn & Johanna strongly believe that Otto was the true source of information in regards to the bear killings and this eventually could be the ‘Cream of the Crop” for a very exciting TV story indeed.  And so they persuade him [Otto] to talk on camera on the said subject matter.

Their very first encounter with Otto happens near his caravan in the woods. Otto’s reciprocation to this are expressions which are rather slack, cold and indifferent to the students and during the subsequent visits; he behaves and sounds all the more hostile and aggressive.

So after a number of failed attempts, does Otto finally give in? The end result is a series and spate of events that would leave you plundered and horrified or gobsmacked if u wish. And if that wasn’t enough, the climax sequences are to die for.

Now, some people may complain that at times the camera is pretty shaky. While some may say that some of the scenes kind of dragged a bit. In my opinion, these are quibbles and shouldn’t come in your way for honest story telling.

I must say, that I was highly impressed by the cinematography. Throughout the film, the camera captures some of the most profound and spectacular landscapes that I’ve never seen even on the Discovery Channel. Also the hand held camera does a smart job in capturing obscure angles in the woods, mountains, caves etc.

Again, the SFX on the Trolls are highly effective. So much that it would have you convinced of the popular Troll folklore. The performances are honest and a true highlight, as they bring out the best out of the characters in this mockumentary.

The humor is more so often dry and tongue in cheek, only enhancing the taste of Scandinavian culture backdrop furthermore. This is high edge of the seat entertainment at its all time best. The reason why “The Troll Hunter” succeeds as a cult movie is because of the clever concoction of horror, fantasy, action, adventure and humor being interwoven together.

The verdict is pretty much out. This is a Ubercool movie with style, substance and brains with brawn, which in my opinion has remained unexplored. Thanks to the OD of Blockbuster movies on TV & everywhere else. So, what are you waiting, go book your own copy at your favorite DVD Rental.
