Unspeakable Acts of Horror and Shame
On Sunday,
December 16th, 2012, a 23yr old paramedical female student from New Delhi and her male associate boarded a bus at
about 21:15h. They had just watched a
movie in a multiplex, which was located in a posh suburban area called Saket, and were on their way home. The rest is history. Apparently, a
gruesome and grotesque act of terror shook the whole world. Tabloids, journals, and news channels all across the globe articulated wildly about this mishap.
This hapless woman was sexually violated by six men, while her friend was plundered mercilessly
with an iron rod. And if that wasn't enough, the woman was violated with the same
rod in an unspeakable manner, as we speak. After more than an hour-long of ordeal, the couple was thrown alongside the road in a disorderly fashion.
Now, let
us remember that this is not the first time that the city has encountered such deplorable acts. There have been many more happenings in all parts of the nation.
Cases that have been registered to the police and a large number of them, have never been highlighted due to sheer shame and stigma issues. However, due to
the violent nature of the crime, people have decided to take a stand and are
now protesting all over the nation.
Think
about this, we are a nation, which boasts largely of having the 2nd largest
population in the world. There are roughly about 1.2 billion people and growing
and it still has a reputation of having the lowest literacy rates. I don't even
have to ink down those figures. It has been official for so many decades. Isn't
it so obvious?! In the year 2011, it just stood up to 74.04%, which is considered to be miserably low as compared to the
world literacy rate of 84%. Can you
imagine a population of 26% having
absolutely no privilege to something that is so fundamental in nature? If education is a fundamental birthright, why isn't our government prioritizing this issue for so many decades?
In my opinion, the so-called uneducated and inept leaders of this nation persistently point fingers at the media, television,
skin shows, hoardings, westernization of culture, etc. as a reason for the incitement of rising violence and crime. Well, I may partly agree that a lot of
directors, actors, and producers alike in our country behave irresponsibly while promoting campaigns of their films and songs. These are the same bunch of
idiotic sellouts, who have the power and the capital to promote positive
messages and yet engage in sleaze, filth, a ruckus in their offerings to the
public. Most of them being blockbusters have zilch of creativity and lack basic substance. Perhaps, I'm putting it a tad mildly.
I can't
imagine, educated people of all ages dancing in weddings, clubs, house parties
and are in favor of "Munni is
Nautanki", "Sheila hai badnam", "Halkat Jawanis". So,
how do you think the illiterate react to this. It is so not cool because of its vulgar implications and
degradation of a woman. This is the kind of crass material, that billions
across the country watch and are influenced, only because of overrated actors
who gyrate in an out-of-taste wade fashion with nubile women. And the next thing
you know, it's a commercial success. It's not just film, but our television,
radio, and print media, that have stooped down to such excruciatingly low
levels, it is even hard to imagine, that there could ever be a silver lining.
Oh,
don't get me wrong. There is talent galore in this city. But for every Aamir Khan, Zoya Akhtar, Anurag Kashyap, Dibakar Banerjee, Quasar Thakore Padamsee we have
about a gazillion producers promoting festering vomit. Taare Zameen Par, 3 Idiots, Black Friday, Mumbai Meri Jaan, Wednesday,
Talaash, Satyamev Vijeyata, Luck by Chance were on point and delivered
strong messages to the audiences and yet showbiz personnel is forever obsessed
with sleaze and crass commercialization of media, which is a clear indication
of cahoots that exists amongst directors, producer, actors and the ilk in this
industry.
Then
again, I do not believe that the problem ends here. One of the primary things that need to change in this nation is consciousness. And this
consciousness can only be brought about by the government, by making
education mandatory across all sectors, just like the way it is in First World
Nations. Sending your kids to schools to an English Medium School from I to XII is the responsibility of
the Government. If you don't comply, the parents or guardians
are incarcerated and fined. How do you think it works elsewhere. This has to
happen not tomorrow or the day after, but TODAY! If it doesn't, the mentality will
NEVER change and we will continue to read about rapes, murders, anti-social
behavior in our daily newspapers just like we are doing right now.
I have
been raised listening to elderly preaching and propagating the rich Indian
Culture. You know, I've been living in this country in various metropolitan cities for
years and I'm pretty well versed in the monumental heritage, especially by
way of architecture, art, dance, music, folklore, cuisines, and I can go on.
But as a citizen, I'm not particularly thrilled to know that Sati was a grim and bitter practice that
every woman endured in the past in this very country. Should I be proud of
that? I'm wary of the fact that a female infanticide is a grotesque act, which
continues to happen to this day.
It occurred well before the Dark Ages and it
is a contemporary reality, which we are all dealing with. But nobody wants to
raise an alarm, because everyone wants a son.
Everyone
is so obsessed with having a son or having a male child, so indirectly we have
a rich history of homosexuals who believe that it is O.K. to be gay. Once again, I'm not here to slag somebody's sexual preference. It's just this ignorant caveman mentality and double standards of the masses that I'm unable to fathom. I think all
parties involved in this should also face the death penalty. Be it a doctor or
a client, both parties must suffer,
realizing that they have blood on their hands while spilling the blood
of the innocents.
Is the
generation of today and the yesteryears of the opinion that women cannot be
as competent as men. I think not. Oh yeah, Kalpana
Chawla, P.T.Usha, Shiny Abraham, Sania Mirza, Saina Nehwal, Mary Kom, Konkana
Sen are just a figment of our wild imagination.
I repeat it's the mentality that needs CHANGE. As is the case, in most developed
nations, women are found in competition along with their men counterparts in
every aspect of their career aspirations.
Please EDUCATE the masses and anybody, who says
that our country doesn't have the resources for the funding is an outright
retard, who needs to get permanent clinical help for himself. These acts have
not just raped the women but have ravaged and raped the nation of all its pride
and honor it ever had. The entire world is now aware of the fact that India is
an unsafe place for women by and large, that it's embarrassing and shameful, to
say the least.
Our laws
are so ineffective because every government official is corrupt. Not enough
funds??? What about the zillions of dollars stashed in every Credit Suisse,
Bank of England, Bank of America, etc., which can create all the infrastructure
and facilities to alter the system. But they don't and they won't because, I
wonder how they will be able to sustain and manage their families with lavish
luxuries and extravagant lifestyles similar to irresponsible celebrities, who
get drunk and disorderly and run down people at unimaginable hours.
But you can surely say that the government is so concerned. No wonder there are myriads of rape cases and charges against MP's & MLA's from most states. The majority of these scumbags have barely graduated from school. It's ironic that the general public has to toil so hard to educate themselves to get a respectable job. And these lethargic, overweight bastards get a fair share of our wealth by way of tax money. This is a clear indication that our government, politicians, sleazebag showbiz producers, and even a certain percentage of the public (let's just admit it) have their heads stuck up their rears permanently that they fail to see the light. I fear that we are treading an extremely dark path.
The
reason, why nobody is conscious of this issue is, that nobody is aware of
what happened during that ordeal. Only the victim would know what she endures through hours of mental and physical brutality. Could you imagine the
plight of the mothers who raised them? Their families are left wounded and
scarred forever. This is the brutal and ugly truth. They would only realize if
that person belonged to the same bloodline. Indeed, blood is thicker than
water!
WAKE UP
PEOPLE, Show your support, by promoting the message of progressive education for the
masses, stricter and effective law and order, mandatory fast track court
systems, robust security and vigil round the clock, and supporting entertainment
that promotes the right message. There needs to be zero tolerance for such dastardly acts. Please pass this on to your friends, family, cousins, workmates, etc., if this
really matters to you. If women in the city are unsafe, how do you expect our
own mothers, sisters, daughters, or spouses to be safe? Sign petitions which are
bound to be actionable, instead of forwarding zero substancee jokes or inane memes or thinking as to how would that one vote or signature count or matter. Well, by all means it does work. So, j
